Originally studying the combination of archaeology and sociocultural anthropology, I made the transition to historical archaeology. My goal was to combine my anthropological understanding on social organization, governance and politics, and cultural heritage with archaeological thinking to study cultures that include written records and oral traditions.

The guiding principle in my research is to understand cultural truths (e.g. social movements, segregation, cooperation, and the physical reflection of this) not merely by relating them to other cultures, but rather understanding them as stand alone processes; detailing the pathways through which they are brought about and what factors effected this.

By approaching human history in this way, my work reaches across disciplinary boundaries and demonstrates originality at its core by approaching every society first from within.
